Olivier Malingue presents the second chapter of ‘Exhibition in Focus’. This week we will look back at ‘Laurent Grasso: The Panoptes Project’, an exhibition featuring works by the French artist combined with a selection of historical artworks hosted at the gallery during autumn 2017.
Exhibition in Focus: Laurent Grasso - The Panoptes Project
For this exhibition, Laurent Grasso had selected historical pieces by Max Ernst, René Magritte, Francis Picabia, and Odilon Redon, among others, to be shown alongside his own works. Juxtaposed according to a subjective principle similar to Surrealist free association, the works produced a general atmosphere where the viewer’s reference points were distorted. On several occasions, Grasso has had the opportunity to combine his work with other historical or contemporary works, choosing to upend the classic codes of museography to create a framework that is both immersive and timeless.
The series is conceived in response to the present situation connected to the spread of COVID-19, which is pushing galleries to rethink and reinvent the way they can engage with their public and audiences.
A selection of works from the different chapters of this series is available for sale and for all enquiries you can contact our gallery at email@example.com or call +44 (0)20 3621 2730.
